Vanina Machado Araújo
Assistant Professor in Spanish Linguistics
I have been a Language Educator since 2009. My career began as an English Teacher in Uruguay, where I worked with CEIBAL en Inglés, various language institutes, and secondary schools. I spent nine years in Canada as a Spanish Instructor and Teaching Assistant, working with both undergraduate and graduate students.
Currently, I teach Linguistics and Spanish at CSUCI in California where I am building my Sociolinguistics Lab, which is focused on fostering a deep understanding of the connection between language (mostly focused on Phonetics and Phonology) and social, cultural, demographic and identity factors. It intends to be a space for students not only to get to know themselves better as learners/speakers of a language but also to be able to develop research about it.
California State University Channel Islands (2024 – current), University of Toronto (2017-2024) & University of Western Ontario (2015-2017).
Courses in Fall semester 2025: SPAN 315 – Introduction to Spanish Linguistics, SPAN 301 – Advanced Grammar, and SPAN 211 – Spanish for Heritage Speakers
